What Should I Pack For My Honeymoon?
This is one of the most common questions I receive from newlyweds; the trips have been planned, the tickets purchased, the guests thanked… now, what do we pack?
Obviously, if you are taking a cruise around Italy and Greece, your pack job will be a little different than if you were road tripping across Canada. Having said that, we will assume you are taking a relaxing trip somewhere warm…this could laying on a beach on Thailand, or a cruise through Mexico; the advice below will cover any of these scenarios:
Remember the sun. The last thing you want to do is ruin your honeymoon with a bad sunburn on your first day out (trust me, this happens ALL the time). Make sure you pack plenty of sunscreen, protective sunglasses and a large brimmed hat.
Leave the expensive stuff at home. Too many people on their honeymoon think they must pack the world with them, then find it a bigger hassle to drag their luggage around with them. The same goes for purses; not only do you weigh yourself down, you make yourself a target for pickpockets.
Forget the carryon. There was a time when airline security was somewhat of a certainty; nowadays, you never know. I have had a plastic tire wrench, one jar of peanut butter, and a bottle of wine confiscated by airport security, and these items are not returned to you. Next time you fly, check all your luggage with the exception of books…there is no reason to risk losing anything valuable.
When you pack for your honeymoon, place dryer sheets in between your clothes, not only will they add a nice fragrance to your clothes, they also prevent wrinkles.
Here’s a tip: if you want to pack for your honeymoon in advance, you can always put your summer clothes in a suitcase at the end of summer, so that when your honeymoon comes around in fall/spring, you’re already half packed. This works better for people who live in colder climates who are planning a honeymoon to a warmer climate. At the end of the day, however, it’s not so much a questions of “What should I pack for my honeymoon?” but rather “How can I have best the best time on my honeymoon?” In other words, don’t let the packing become a worry. After all, you survived the wedding, didn’t you? |
