Here’s how you can make a map for a trip you have already taken. If you have taken a great trip, maps make awesome presents for family (though not so much for friends). It’s a great way to say “thanks” to people that have helped support your trip, either financially or emotionally.

If you want to make a map that can be emailed to friends, I suggest you visit Google maps. From there, enter all the addresses that you have stayed at, plus points of interest along the way. You can either take note of the addresses when you are there, or look them up at the end of your trip. Once you have input all the information, you can scale the map accordingly.

A great way to spruce up your trip map is to make one map for your overall trip, then make smaller segment maps for more detail. You could then save each map and link them to each other, with your personal day to day commentary. You can then add videos, audio or pictures before sending to friends.

A great tool to tie all this together is create a travel blog through the Bootsnall travel network. Not only can you update this at a whim, you also have the ability to make a map for a trip you are currently on. While I have not personally used this service, it appears to be very straightforward and user friendly.
