Australia Flights Open Return

How Australia Flights With An Open Return Saved My College Career

While at university in the United States, I decided to study abroad in Australia for a semester. While there it occurred to me that since I was on the other side of the world, it would pay for me to take the long way home. I purchased a round the world ticket through STA travel (the definitive resource for student travel) that took me to Vietnam, Singapore, Nepal, London, Canada and San Francisco (where I lived at the time) before returning to Sydney. The open return allowed me to go back to school and work for a semester before taking a well deserved (or so I thought) break to hang out on Australia's east coast during the holidays. Australia flights, open return or closed, can be found cheaply, though they work best as part of a larger itinerary.

Why? Australia, along with England and North America, are permanent fixtures on multi segment travel. For example, if you want to buy a round the world ticket, you'll notice a serious increase in price if you stray from these three destinations. It is therefore important to plan your trip accordingly. I highly recommend to anyone, especially students, to take advantage of the cheap flights available to Australia.

Australia flights with an open return do offer flexibility (great for long term traveling) though it is done at a premium. International flights that are refundable tend to charge between ten and twenty percent more than their low cost counterparts. This is yet another reason to build a flight to Australia into a larger itinerary; doing so will provide the lowest cost with the most flexibility per destination.

If you are comparing Australia flights, open return may be the way to go. Or not. You might want to compare the cost of a multi segment flights originating from your home airport against the cost of one purchased in Australia (using a one way ticket to get there; preferably purchased with frequent flyer miles!) If you have the time, consider a multi segment or RTW ticket. Either, as the Aussies say, it's no worries!
