Thailand or India Travel
Where should I travel: Thailand or India? As the two most popular destinations for backpackers (due to the combination of uber cheap travel costs and high level of culture) Thailand and India are an example of a perfect dilemma: you really can’t go wrong with either decision. It’s really a win-win.
Honestly, it pains me to write this, as both countries are magnificent travel destinations, and if you have an extended period of time, it is very reasonable to travel by train from one to the other. Having said that, if you are short on time/money and are forced to choose one over the other, here’s a few points to consider:
How well can you handle seeing poverty? If the sight of poverty really bothers you, stick with Thailand.
How are you with dealing with crowds? If you hate crowds, it’s best to visit Thailand (although there are many places in India that you can find peace and quiet).
What is your budget? If it is $25 a day or more, it’s really up to you. If it’s less, go with India.
How do you like curry? Both Indian and Thai curries are delicious! Indian curry tends to contain a wider variety of spices, whereas Thai tends to have more sweet and heat.
Are you interested in religion? If you are dying to see Buddhist temples, go to Thailand. More interested Hinduism? India is the place to be.
Are you in love with scuba diving? Though India has several great beaches, Thailand wins this one hands down.
Do you want to stay in one country, or see surrounding areas? Inida, as a whole, has to more to offer by itself; Thailand is best seen as a part of Southeast Asia.
Do you have more than one month to travel? If you do, and don’t want to visit other countries, India is for you. If you have less than a month, Thailand or India travel equally well in that timeframe. Thailand or India travel will be fulfilling and adventurous either way. If, after asking yourself these questions you’re still undecided, flip a coin: you won’t be disappointed on either, trust me. |
