Armed with the right information, I believe anyone can obtain great deals on travel. If you are interested in discovering the cheapest time of year to go to Hawaii, the answer is two-pronged. The easy answer is late fall/ early winter; the more involved answer is that it depends on market conditions.

OK, let's look at the first answer, that winter is the cheapest time of year for trips to Hawaii. You might think this is against common sense; after all, what better time to escape to warm tropics of Hawaii than in the middle of snow storm in Minnesota (or rain storm in California)? Wouldn't this increased demand drive up prices? Well, yes - assuming that people actually did book flights to Hawaii during the winter time. But they don't.

With the obvious exceptions of the holidays, most people don't think to visit Hawaii in the winter. The reason is two-fold: most people take their vacations in the summer, and if they do travel during the winter, it's usually to see family (most of whom don't live in Hawaii).

Thanks to steady weather throughout the year, you're basically paying less for the same experience (just less people!). Keep in mind, however, that fares tend to jump after January!

As for the market conditions, sometimes its cheaper to purchase a flight now, or wait until the fares may drop. While I generally advise people to buy now rather than later, a new website called farecast.com provides advise that is hard to ignore. You simply type in the dates you want to travel, and they provide you with a recommendation (and percentage of certainty) on whether to buy now or wait a little longer.
