Sail Yacht Crew Needed Wanted
A sail or yacht crew is always needed and wanted… you just have to know where to look!
Years ago, a friend of mine spent a year working on a wide variety of boats. He was a crew member on a fishing boat in Alaska, a cruise ship in the Mediterranean, and he got in the Caribbean. Needless to say, he had quite a few adventures that year! Remember, a sail yacht crew is always needed and wanted… you just need to find them!
Crewfile.com is a great resource to start with. Here you can search through a wide variety of crew wanted ads, which will help you determine not only the availability, but also the types of jobs that are needed on a yacht or cruise.
Yachtingcrews.com is a comprehensive resource for sailing and yacht listings. They offer a wide variety of training courses to improve your marketability, ranging from a stewardess, chef, engineer and even captains.
There are many entry-level crew positions available, though you'll certainly be ahead of the competition if you already have an Eng1 Medical Certificate, as well as the STCW95 BST (both are simple to get, and saves your prospective employers the hassle of obtaining them for you).
It is possible to find work sailing on a yacht just by walking along the pier (known as the "dockwalk") though you can also work with a crew placement agent, who has an updated listing of crew positions needed.
Another great resource for sail yatch crew wanted listings is www.getacruisejob.com. Though the program itself is a tad expensive, you receive the insider information needed to land the job of your dreams. There are also several additional bonuses that are offered from time to time.
