Jobs That Require Travel
There was a time in my early twenties when I graduated college, and had a job lined up as a manager for a paint company. Take about excitement! I lasted one hour in the training program before running for the hills…literally. It was at that moment that I realized the office environment was not cut out for me. I began searching for jobs that require travel, mainly as an excuse to hit the road.
Here are some of my suggestions for anyone looking for jobs that require travel:
Trucker. If you can handle the long monotonous hours of driving and want to see the country, by all means get your commercial drivers license and hit the road! Be aware, though; this can wear thin very quickly for most people.
Tour guide. Arguably the coolest job ever created. You drive across the country with 10-20 passengers, and basically show them a great time. You learn, you grow, you party, and you get paid! I spent a summer as a cross country tour guide with Trek America, and have to admit it was the best job I’ve ever had!
National parks. While this doesn’t require travel per se, it is a fantastic way to live in a beautiful place for a season or two. After dropping my job at the paint company I took up a cooking position in Yosemite for four months. I was able to save over one thousand dollars each month, while the tourists were paying over seventy dollars a night to stay in the exact same place!
Cruises. If you can stand being on open water for more than a week at a time, working a cruise may be the job for you. Like National Parks, cruises require a wide variety of skills, and it’s quite easy to land a job with one. I have done all of these jobs, and had a great time with all of them. Keep your eye out for jobs that require travel; you’ll never know where they take you. |
