Air India Travel Agent

There are many considerations when looking for an Indian travel agent. Generally,  you will find cheaper fares to India if you use a travel agency with local connections. In travel speak, agencies can sell tickets in one country while ticketing in another.

How it works:

  • SOTO: Sell Out, Ticket Out. This is usually the most expensive route. For example, you contact a travel agent in San Francisco , who sells you a flight from Delhi to Mumba, which is then ticketed in the United States.

  • SOTI: Sell In, Ticket In. Cheaper than SOTO,  because  the flight is ticketed in India. For example, an Air India travel agent  sells you the same flight, but does it through an Indian travel agency, who tickets the trip for you.

The concept makes sense; after all, since labor is cheaper in India, it follows that the flights would be cheaper as well.

You must do your homework, of course, but a crucial question to ask (that most travelers never do) is whether your travel agent will Sell In, Ticket In. Trust me, they’ll know the term.

This alone can save you hundreds of dollars on your flights to India.

I don’t recommend using travel agents from a specific airline. If you are looking for an Air India Travel Agent, for example, guess what they’re going to try and sell you? You guessed it: Air India. While some would argue that this travel agent could access the lowest fares from Air India,  I disagree. Any decent wholesaler could access those same fares, especially if they were able to Sell In, Ticket In.
